The Ford Fiesta ST almost confirmed for the US

Even though we are at Pebble Beach and everyone is talking about cars costing half a million and up, other figures in the industry have gathered at Laguna Seca and couldn’t help talking about more down-to-earth models. Steve Ling, marketing director of Ford, was present and gave the scoop that the Ford Fiesta ST will cross the pond.

While here in Europe we await the presentation of the ST at the next Paris Motor Show and its very likely launch, which would begin in December, across the Atlantic there was no official confirmation of the model for the US, a huge market eager for hatchbacks with sporting aspirations, where Ford has pinned many hopes on the Fiesta.

The only thing that could change compared with the European version is that the American Fiesta will arrive in a five-door configuration, instead of three-door. According to the commercial strategy they have adopted, a three-door Fiesta has never been sold in the US, and the ST would not be the exception.

The powertrain will be the same as in the European model, the 180-horsepower 1.6 Ecoboost, paired with the six-speed manual gearbox. What there is little hope for is that Ford will adopt a dual-clutch gearbox, not even in Europe.

A shame for them and a stroke of luck for us, as we will see the most attractive version of the ST here, the three-door model.
