The Ford Mustang 2018 is based on a Star Wars character. Can you guess which one?
The designers of Ford looked to a well-known fictional character to shape the front of the popular model, and it seems they have pulled it off.

The Ford Mustang has benefited from a facelift for next year, and we found it rather curious. The front end has undergone some changes, and it took us a while to work out where the difference lay. Not because it is not obvious, but because we see resemblances to something, though we cannot tell where we have seen it before. The doubt was cleared up thanks to Melvin Betancourt, the company’s design director, who was part of the team that carried out the modifications to the car.
The designers were looking for something that would make the new Ford Mustang more dynamic, more aggressive and more fun to drive. While they were considering some of the design options, someone thought to turn to the world of cinema and, specifically, to one of the main characters of Star Wars. They drew on him to achieve that striking image for the new Ford Mustang, which, despite being only a facelift, has managed to set itself apart from its predecessors.

No, we are not getting a hairy, snouted body, but a mechanical “face” that gives personality to one of the most striking muscle cars on the market. The character who lent part of his personality is none other than Darth Vader, whose mask helped the designers focus on making the front of the car not identical, yet still remind us of that iconic image.
The contours of the mask have been used to shape the headlights, and the breather has served as the inspiration for the front grille. A slight touch-up to the overall shape also brings it closer to the most famous villain in cinema history. Sure, these references are a bit of a stretch, but let’s let our imagination run and allow our minds to carry us off to Star Wars, and let them make us fly with this update to the Ford Mustang.
This facelift for 2018 will offer as an option a four-cylinder 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine, along with, at the top of the range, the 5.0-litre V8 engine. Does it really remind you of Darth Vader? Perhaps the black version that heads the article.
