The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been one of the best-selling and most sought-after SUVs of its time. Now, its fourth generation is ready for its long-awaited return to the market. After a pause in its sales, the Outlander is being modernised and renewed, unveiling the first image of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV adapted for the European market with this plug-in hybrid version, which will be presented in Madrid on 1 October.

In its previous phase, the Outlander reached its third generation, debuting at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and going on sale a year later. Since then, 200,000 units have been registered, making it the best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV in Europe for several consecutive months.

Mitsubishi Outlander 2024: the fourth generation

The fourth generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander, originally presented in 2021, is now being adapted for the European market. Mitsubishi Motors continues to back Europe strongly with this new launch in the competitive D-segment of SUVs.

This year, Mitsubishi celebrates the 90th anniversary of its 4WD system, introduced in 1934 with the PX-33, the first Japanese vehicle with all-wheel drive. This technology has evolved into the modern Outlander PHEV, which uses the dual-motor 4×4 Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. Developed in the 2000s and refined in rallying with the Lancer Evolution, S-AWC was introduced in 2007 and reached the Outlander PHEV in 2013.

The new Outlander PHEV, developed specifically for Europe, stands as a pioneer built on the legacy of its predecessors, with a record of 200,000 units sold on the continent since 2013. Its design follows the Japanese concept of I-Fu-Do-Do, meaning authentic and majestic, offering PHEV 4×4 technology, dynamic design, quality, comfort and safety.

Presentation in Madrid

The new generation of the Outlander PHEV will be presented in European premiere in Madrid on 1 October. Production of the new model will begin at the end of 2024, joining the renewed product line-up of Mitsubishi, which has recently launched the new ASX and COLT models. The Outlander PHEV is expected to reach Spanish dealerships in early 2025.
