The German government orders the recall of nearly 100,000 vehicles Opel

The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) discovered at the beginning of 2018 software modifications designed to alter vehicle emissions.

The German Transport Ministry has announced that a recall of approximately 100,000 cars of the brand Opel will shortly take place. The Cascada, Insignia and Zafira models are involved in the government investigation. The reason for the inspection is the possible software modification that could alter the emissions of the vehicles mentioned.

The raid was carried out by prosecutors at the offices of Opel located in Rüsselsheim and Kaiserslautern. The German manufacturer confirmed this information and its full cooperation with the government authorities. The Opel Cascada, Insignia and Zafira models were developed while General Motors still owned the company. In 2017 the company was sold to PSA Group, which has chosen not to make any statements.

The KBA warned of this problem

The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA by its German acronym) had already discovered in early 2018 this alteration described as “illegal”, which led to the investigation of Opel and the mandatory recall of some of its vehicles. Now the German government ratifies the KBA’s request: to withdraw 95,000 cars with Euro 6D engines from the market.

This institution had already found during 2015 up to a total of four programs capable of altering emissions in its vehicles. Opel was forced to update the software in its cars, according to a statement from the German Transport Ministry. For its part, the German manufacturer reaffirms its full compliance with current regulations and rejects any kind of accusation. In addition, Opel is willing to take the recall of its vehicles from the market to court.
