The Honda Clarity will also be offered as a battery electric and plug-in hybrid
Honda will present two new electrified options of the Clarity at the upcoming New York Auto Show. The saloon will be offered in a hydrogen version, a battery electric version, and a plug-in hybrid version.
Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric models are beginning to hold a considerable share of the market. The latest manufacturer to join this trend is Honda, which has unveiled an intriguing teaser image of one of its most modern models. The Japanese brand will present two new electrified versions of the Clarity at the upcoming New York Auto Show, to be held next April. The Japanese company will offer a battery electric option and another plug-in hybrid version of its saloon.
The Honda Clarity will be the first model to offer two electrified options plus a variant with a hydrogen fuel cell. This will allow it to differentiate itself from its main rival, the Hyundai IONIQ, which, despite offering three types of powertrain (battery electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid), does not offer a hydrogen option.
The Japanese carmaker has assured that all versions of the Clarity will offer “a smooth and quiet experience”. The innovative saloon will feature good dynamic capabilities and the direct acceleration that characterises battery electric models. The PHEV version of the Clarity will be able to run in 100% electric mode for 64 km, a considerable figure with which the brand hopes to make the model the leader in its category. For its part, the battery electric Honda Clarity will become the world’s first zero-emission, mainstream, mid-size, five-seat vehicle.
The Japanese manufacturer has also announced that two thirds of its global sales will come from electrified vehicles by 2030.
