The Honda CR-Z Racer will be at Le Mans

Honda continues its love affair with the CR-Z and, in addition to presenting special versions, has now unveiled the show model that will be circulating at Le Mans (alongside the Leaf NISMO RC): the CR-Z Racer already seen at last year’s SEMA.

The good thing about all this is that a hybrid is good for more than satisfying the ego of having the latest thing or following fashion. This CR-Z Racer is built to race, and that is exactly what it will do at Le Mans (though, of course, not in competition). Prepared by HPD (Honda Performance Development), this “racing” CR-Z shows everything technology has within reach to demonstrate that a hybrid doesn’t necessarily mean being slow and eco-friendly.

The engine has been suitably reinforced with a turbo and remains practically identical to the “standard” CR-Z. While the road-going CR-Z produces 124 horsepower combined with the electric motor, this CR-Z Racer reaches 200 horsepower, partly thanks to slightly more powerful 173-volt batteries and the famous push to pass button, which gives you a little extra power from the electric motor for a few seconds in order to overtake.
