The Honda Micro Conmuter is now a copy of the Renault Twizy

Today some images have started to surface of a new electric prototype from Honda, an urban three-seat electric vehicle fully dedicated to electric propulsion with a striking resemblance to the Renault Twizy. The prototype has been named Micro Conmuter and is the second prototype of this kind that Honda has shown in less than a year, at the Tokyo show.

This small electric car can carry the driver and two children, or another adult in the back. With a 20 CV electric motor, don’t expect fireworks or a top speed to write home about, as it doesn’t go beyond 90 km/h, and as usual the range is the same story: the battery doesn’t last more than 60 kilometres.

Just like the Renault Twizy, there are no windows, only the two doors for getting into the car, although, again as with the Twizy, an accessory to “complete” the doors will be offered in the near future. The Metro Conmuter will have no dashboard, controls or associated indicators; instead, all its functions will be controlled through a Samsung tablet, which draws power from the solar panels on the roof. The tablet also doubles as the rear-view mirror thanks to video cameras mounted at the rear.

It seems that just a little creativity has a big impact on the cost of these prototypes. Otherwise, it’s hard to explain why the first concept was quite futuristic and attractive (while keeping its boxy shape, so in vogue) and this one is so “Twizy-like”. Even so, I think I preferred the Metro Conmuter of the two. We’ll see if Honda confirms its production.
