The Hyundai Genesis Coupe loses its entry-level engine

El próximo Hyundai Genesis contará con tracción total pero no habrá una submarca premium

Hyundai has announced that the Genesis Coupe, one of its most expensive and sporty models of recent years, will from now on be sold with a single engine.

This way, it loses the entry-level engine, a 2.0 Turbo, leaving a single alternative, one 3.8 V6 engine, more to American tastes.

The Hyundai Genesis is one of those vehicles that, because of the badge on its front, are not valued as they deserve. In Spain, the Genesis was on sale for roughly two years, offering both engine options to its customers.

In other markets, such as the United States, the Genesis has been received in line with the quality it offers. That is why, with this update to its range, the Korean firm intends to position the Genesis Coupe one step above the position it held until now.

The engine being dropped is a four-cylinder turbocharged unit which, with a displacement of just 2 litres, delivered 275 CV and 370 NM, figures more than enough to move the Genesis Coupe with total ease, but which do not match the tastes of certain markets, which prefer larger engines.

In fact, the variant that will now be the sole alternative is a 3.8-litre, 6-cylinder V engine with direct injection and naturally aspirated, producing 350 CV and 400 NM of torque. As can be seen, it is a relatively “big” powertrain. The transmissions will remain unchanged, offering a 6-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed automatic.

This restructuring of the range is motivated, according to the brand, by a more premium approach to the model, which from now on will also offer more equipment. The selling price is also expected to rise slightly, but in return buyers will get one of the most exotic combinations on the automotive market.
