The Ioniq family has a new member from today, one that arrives to stand out and to catch our attention. The Ioniq 9 is a seven-seat electric SUV that joins the electric range of the South Korean brand and shows several things that make it impossible not to look at it with great interest.

This seven-seat electric SUV, large in size and with a spectacular look, makes it possible to fill a segment the brand still had open. It is built on the E-GMP platform, which serves as the basis for other models from the brand, from KIA and from Genesis. Aesthetically, the new Hyundai Ioniq 9 is based on the SEVEN concept car SEVEN, which was presented two years ago.

As with other models from the brand, the Ioniq 9 features Parametric Pixel technology, which gives it a thoroughly modern and dynamic look. In terms of aerodynamics, it achieves a Cx of 0.259, a figure that offers very efficient air resistance and helps both performance and range retention.

It does without a roof antenna and places the GPS reception in the front windscreen, the FM radio in the rear one, and the vehicle’s connectivity is managed from the instrument panel. Buyers will be able to choose between three wheel sizes: 19, 20 and 21 inches. For the larger wheels, there is the option of the brand’s own Caligraph wheels. To round off the look, 16 body colours are available.

Interior of the Ioniq 9

In the cabin, the model makes use of the 3,130 mm wheelbase and a very spacious interior has been designed. A trim with luxury materials has been chosen, offering comfort and ease on long journeys. The multifunction steering wheel gives easy access to the most important controls, and the driver finds a single curved screen.

On it you can see the 12-inch digital instrument cluster and the infotainment system screen of the same size. The sound system is equipped with eight speakers, although there is an option to have 14 speakers signed by Bose. To power external devices such as smartphones, several high-performance USB-C ports have been included. These ports in turn draw power from the main battery, so they can deliver charging power of up to 100 W.

The latest-generation ADAS systems are available on the Ioniq 9. With these driver-assistance systems and 10 airbags, occupant safety is assured. As for the cabin elements, a large amount of recycled materials has been used, such as recycled PET, fabrics made with wool and leather processed in an eco-friendly way, and other sustainable materials.

It will be possible to find six- and seven-occupant versions. In the second row, the seats feature a swivel function, mirroring the same function found in the Kia EV9.

Engines and battery

The Ioniq 9 is equipped with a 110.3 kWh battery and buyers will have three different configurations available. The battery’s charging capacity means it can go from 10 to 80% of its capacity in 24 minutes when using a 350 kW fast charger.

The entry-level Long Range version is fitted with a single electric motor at the rear. This produces 160 kW, that is, 214 hp and 350 Nm of torque. With these figures, it can offer a range of up to 620 kilometres on the WLTP cycle, provided the 19-inch wheels are fitted.

Next comes the Long Range AWD variant, which adds a front motor of 70 kW, equivalent to 94 hp, and 255 Nm of torque. Finally, at the top of the range sits the Ioniq 9 Performance, which offers two motors of 160 kW each, equivalent to 214 hp apiece. The Performance can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, compared with 6.7 seconds for the AWD version and 9.5 seconds for the entry-level variant. The top speed for all of them is 200 km/h.

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 will arrive in 2025, but it will initially be sold in South Korea and the United States, while Europe and other markets will get it a little later. The price is not yet known, but it is expected to be around 80,000 euros as a starting price.
