The INEOS Grenadier will collaborate with The HALO Trust to develop the off-roader

The NGO specialised in clearing anti-personnel mines will have 130 prototypes of the off-roader to test it on extreme terrain and in extreme conditions

We have already talked several times about the INEOS Grenadier, an off-roader built for the most demanding missions and the toughest terrain. To make this model even more practical and useful, it is now strengthening its collaboration with The HALO Project, a non-governmental organisation working in post-war countries clearing anti-personnel mines across several territories.

The collaboration between INEOS and The HALO Trust dates back to 2020, when several members of the company’s staff took part in several of the NGO’s missions in Angola. There they saw how the vehicles used by the volunteers have to cope with extreme terrain that tests the fleet of off-roaders they use. As a result of that collaboration, all the information gathered is being used to improve the development of the INEOS Grenadier so that it can meet these harsh conditions of use.

A fleet capable of moving across any terrain

At present, The HALO Trust’s fleet comprises 600 4×4 vehicles, prepared to undergo the toughest tests. Nevertheless, moving even with them is sometimes difficult. So INEOS is gathering all possible data to design the off-roader in line with the most demanding needs of the organisation.

These vehicles have to travel through areas of armed conflict, rainforests or deserts with very high temperatures. In 2020, INEOS took part in a mission in Angola. On that trip they saw first-hand the conditions the volunteers and their vehicles have to face. They often have to repair the off-roader on the mission site with very basic tools, so the vehicle needs to be not only useful and versatile, but also practical.

To advance both projects, over the next 12 months 130 units of the INEOS Grenadier will take part in The HALO Trust’s missions. On these missions to clear anti-personnel mines and remove weapons from hostile terrain, the off-roaders will be put to the test in the second stage of real-world trials.

The aim is to verify their level of adaptability, mobility and ability to be repaired on the ground in an emergency. In the future there will be a fleet of INEOS Grenadiers specially adapted for The HALO Trust. These units will include protective aprons and secure storage areas for mine-clearance tools.

Another function this vehicle must have in this case is that it can be easily adapted to become an ambulance and transport injured people when necessary. The collaboration between the company and the NGO will allow the former to supply the off-road vehicles the latter needs to carry out its work.
