The Jaguar E-Type from 1960 will travel to the present as a 100% electric version

The popular and luxurious Jaguar E-Type enters the 21st century with an electric version developed by two companies specialising in these variants, due to arrive in 2020

When the Jaguar E-Type was one of the most luxurious cars available on the market in the 1960s, it will be able to reclaim that position again in a few months’ time. And it will do so thanks to the project by Jaguar Classics, which is developing a fully electric model based on this classic car. It is not the only project in this direction, as a similar version is also being worked on with Evolution E-Types and Electrifi, which also have a similar proposal.

The Evolution Electrifi Jaguar E-Type is based on an original 1960 car and will feature a reinforced chassis to cope with the additional torque of the electric motor. The prototype will be ready for presentation this summer, and the production model will arrive a few months later. The first version of the electric Jaguar E-Type will have the look of a roadster with an aluminium body. Both companies’ plans include offering a coupé version later on.

Although it is a 1960 car, the electric model will include modern features to increase safety and improve the driving experience. An electric power steering system, high-performance brakes and an improved suspension are some of the additions included in the electric model to enhance its capabilities. An air-conditioning system will also be fitted to improve the comfort of the occupants.

The two companies involved in the project have not offered much more information about the Jaguar E-Type electric, but it is expected to have a power output equivalent to 450 CV and will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under four seconds. The top speed of this original version of this classic will be 265 km/h. That said, there is no information about the battery pack and motor it will use, so figures such as range remain shrouded in mystery.

One thing we do know, and which is rather curious, is that the Jaguar E-Type electric will keep the original engine and transmission in case the driver wants to feel the roar of the original car again. The companies are already receiving orders for this Jaguar E-Type electric, which will begin deliveries in 2020 and has a price of approximately 970,000 euros.
