Jaguar has announced that the next generation of the Jaguar XF will feature the 2.2 four-cylinder diesel engine used by PSA and Ford, an engine that in the case of the Jaguar XF 2012 will produce 190 CV (ten fewer than in the PSA models). Until now the XF has only offered the 210 CV V6 diesel engine (also sourced from PSA), but it seems the four-cylinder is gradually making its way into the upper-range models.

The best thing about this powerplant is its strong torque of 450 Nm, with performance somewhat below the V6 unit but still very respectable. Since it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 225 km/h, the British manufacturer indicates that its average consumption will be around 5.4 litres per 100 km (homologation is still pending), a good figure compared with the current 6.8 litres of the V6 diesel engine.

Mechanically, a novelty is the eight-speed ZF gearbox that this model will debut, and as standard it will feature the Start&Stop system to reduce consumption. Jaguar has also released spy photos of the future generation of the XF, which we will probably see at the New York Auto Show opening its doors on 22 April, where we will have more information about the new XF 2012 or even get to see the restyling.
