Chrysler is not giving up on its effort to hold ground in the market and is preparing its variants for 2011, with some changes that will be made to the Jeep Patriot and the MPV Grand Voyager, to be launched initially in the US. Both models have been on the market for some time, but they are still part of Sergio Marchionne’s plans.

Starting with the Grand Voyager, the most important novelty is the incorporation of the new 3.6-litre Pentastar V6. Along with the engine come cosmetic changes that alter the Grand Voyager’s grille, moving from the familiar “cells” to a horizontal grille, much simpler and less flashy. Completing the updates are new designs for the bumpers and chrome exterior details. The new instrument panel has received a new look, a bit retro if you like.

On the Patriot’s side, the changes are more modest, but they won’t go unnoticed. It will get a new front bumper with integrated fog lights, four new colours, an increase in ride height to improve progress over uneven terrain (which isn’t much, about 2.50 cm), along with slight changes to the suspension that will go unnoticed by most users.

Two vehicles fighting for survival within the MPV and off-road segments. Although Jeep is the one that gives Marchionne the most satisfaction in his American adventure, the Patriot needed this facelift, while the Grand Voyager seems undecided about how much presence MPVs can retain against other, more popular segments, such as SUVs.
