The Jeep Yuntu shows the brand's future at the Shanghai Motor Show

This concept model was unveiled at the Chinese event, as it is designed exclusively for that market, with no plans for other markets

We talked about this model a few weeks ago, but we only had a few sketches to get an idea of what it would look like once the Shanghai Motor Show began. Now we have the first images from this Chinese event to see how this concept car will look, one that would be limited, at least initially, to the Chinese market. Hence its name, Yuntu, which means Cloud in Chinese, and which looks as good as you can see in the images.

The concept has a feature that makes it quite interesting and turns it into the first plug-in hybrid Jeed in history. This project will push the brand to keep up with the new times. Given the emissions restrictions in China, all brands want to be ready to meet the requirements set by the Chinese authorities. The Jeep Yuntu will be the first hybrid model and is intended solely for the Chinese market.

Although it has already been presented and could be seen at the Shanghai show, the characteristics of the hybrid powertrain have not been made public, so there is still a lot to discuss about this spectacular off-road model. What we do know for certain is that this type of drivetrain will feature in the rest of the models set to enter production soon. Among them, the Wrangler stands out, which could arrive as a hybrid from 2018 onwards.

The Jeep Wrangler had a fully electric version in 2008, although this does not seem to be the brand’s main interest, which will instead lean towards hybrid systems. As for the look of the Yuntu, it retains all the essence of a Jeep, with a more modern and up-to-date front end, slim headlights that accentuate its electrified mobility character. The lights have also been modernised at the rear, which features LED technology and a very attractive design.

Inside, we find a screen that occupies the entire central space, displaying all the technological features. Nothing indicates that this model will move into production any time soon, so we will have to wait for news from the American company about this concept model. What do you think of this new prototype from the brand?
