The Lancia Ypsilon is being renewed... and will be built in Zaragoza
Next year the new generation of the Lancia Ypsilon will begin production, a compact car being renewed to rescue the brand, and it will be built in Zaragoza.

A few months ago we learned that the new generation of the Lancia Ypsilon would arrive soon, a brand classic that will get a new lease of life very shortly. What the company, which sits under the Stellantis umbrella, has confirmed in recent days is that the car will be built at the group’s plant in Figueruelas, in the province of Zaragoza.
Production will begin at the Spanish plant after the model is presented. The presentation will take place in the first half of 2024, and it is at that point that production of the car will start at the Zaragoza plant. The most likely date for the start of production of the Lancia Ypsilon is July, so the plant has already begun selecting new operators to meet the factory’s needs.

Apparently, building the Lancia Ypsilon will require opening a new work shift and taking on 600 new employees. Good news for the plant, as it will thus have a fourth production line, on top of already building the Opel Corsa, the Opel Crossland and the Citroën C3 Aircross.
A renewed classic
At present, Lancia still sells the model launched in 2011. It has undergone several updates but has not had a new generation until now. Italy is currently the only market where it can be bought, but the new generation is expected to reach many more countries.
For now, this new Lancia Ypsilon will offer hybrid and electric versions, the former with combustion engines. That said, the company’s plans involve phasing these out by 2028. From that year on, all Lancia models will be fully electric.
With this model, Lancia is expected to regain the position it once held and become a profitable brand with several novelties that help the company’s revival. For now, there are no images of what to expect from this new generation, so we will have to wait a few months to see what shape the new Lancia Ypsilon will take.
