The Land Rover Discovery Sport 2020 debuts a mild-hybrid system, along with a new design that focuses on luxury and environmentally friendly materials.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport 2020 debuts a mild-hybrid system, along with a new design. It also offers improved technology and more environmentally friendly engine options.

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport has a recognizable look and, according to the manufacturer, is a “refined evolution” of its previous design. The new model features modified bumpers and redesigned LED light clusters.

The new crossover from Land Rover has been fitted with a new grille and a range of alloy wheels ranging from 18 to 21 inches. The Land Rover Discovery Sport features a new three-spoke steering wheel, a revised centre console and higher-quality materials.

Drivers will find a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment system that can be operated via a 10-inch touchscreen.

The dashboard has a central piece with a much more luxurious-looking distribution unit. The Discovery Sport 2020 has new seats that promise greater comfort and versatility. As for the latter, the new crossover from Land Rover has a foldable second row of seats, so it can offer up to 24 different configurations.

The seats can be covered with a new material called Luxtex, made from recycled polyester microfibre, and Land Rover has already announced its intention to produce vegan components for its vehicles. The brand has added that it is “luxuriously soft, lightweight, durable and tear-resistant”.

At the forefront of the technological load stands the new smart rear-view mirror. It is called ClearSight Rear View and, with just the touch of a button, the mirror turns into a high-definition screen showing live images from a camera mounted on the rear window. It offers a wider field of vision than a traditional rear-view mirror and better visibility in low-light conditions.

In addition, the new Land Rover Discovery Sport can be equipped with the ClearSight Ground View system, which uses cameras to display a “180º virtual view beneath the vehicle”. The facelift of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, like the new Range Rover Evoque 2020, is based on the manufacturer’s Premium Transverse Architecture. It is 13% stiffer than its predecessor and features “rigidly mounted auxiliary frames that reduce the transmission of noise and vibration into the cabin”.

What engines will the new Land Rover Discovery Sport have?

The new model will be available with a wide range of engines and a mild-hybrid version. It is available with mild hybridisation, producing 150 CV and 380 Nm of torque, although hybrid versions with 180 CV and 430 Nm and 237 CV and 500 Nm will also be available. All will be built on a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine.

On the petrol side, Land Rover will launch a mild-hybrid model with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. It will produce 197 CV and 320 Nm of torque. There is also a more powerful variant with 246 CV and 365 Nm of torque. Its starting price is €35,870 in Europe.
