Lego has wanted to pay a special tribute to one of the most iconic vehicles in automotive history. It is the Nissan GT-R, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The legendary Japanese sports car is celebrating, and its scale replica made with Lego bricks couldn’t be more realistic.

The new Lego Speed Champions Nissan GT-R Nismo has become a new brick set that marks the first partnership between the Danish toy giant and a Japanese car manufacturer.

Unveiled at Nissan’s global headquarters in Yokohama, the Nissan GT-R Nismo by Lego is one of the first in the Speed Champions 2020 themed sets, and it will be 25 percent larger than in previous years.

Made from 298 Lego elements, the Nissan GT-R Nismo scale model manages to capture the characteristic details of the real car in a relatively small footprint.

“Authenticity is always our main concern, and we spent a lot of time exploring different building techniques to correctly recreate the taillights, since they are one of the most recognizable details of the car. I’m really happy with the final result!”, said the design department of the Danish brick brand.

While it is definitely not an exact replica, the Nissan GT-R Nismo by Lego is easy to recognize thanks to the iconic round taillights, the massive rear wing and the quad exhausts. The rear is clearly more accurate than the front, if you ask us.

“With this partnership, everyone can be a ‘takumi’, the specialized artisans who build the Nissan GT-R Nismo. And this is the2020 Nissan Gt R Nismo And Lego Speed Champions Nissan Gt R Nismo 4 50th anniversary of the Nissan GT-R Nismo this year, so what better way to celebrate than sharing the GT-R with Nissan and LEGO fans around the world!”, said Asako Hoshino, executive vice president of Nissan.

Working with the Lego Group was like waking up my 10-year-old inner self to rediscover what makes the GT-R so special to me. It’s striking how much the Lego Group’s attention to detail reminds me of our own craftsmen.”
