The Lotus Evija hits the track to put itself to the test

Testing of the Lotus Evija begins. The first development car runs around the brand’s circuit, and it does so camouflaged

Although the Lotus Evija was unveiled to the public in July and has been exhibited before the eyes and cameras of specialists, potential customers and curious onlookers, its track debut has been covered in a rather eye-catching wrap.

The official unveiling on the asphalt of the brand’s test track and track day, located in the British town of Hethel, has been an event recorded by the brand, since the tests and trials of the Lotus Evija show that this car is not one of the many concept cars the automotive industry has displayed that ended up as mere show cars.

Be that as it may, the Lotus Evija shown in the video is the second unit built. The difference from the first is that today’s car wears a livery that suggests Lotus has already introduced changes compared with the first one.

The vehicle used, the one we had all seen before, is one of the various development mules of the Lotus Evija. Those who now hold the baton and the legacy built on the efforts of Colin Chapman plan to put more development vehicles on the road, both on circuits and on public roads open to ordinary traffic, in order to analyse, refine and configure these “mules” and establish the best “set-up” for the cars that will leave the assembly line.

Assembly will begin once the tests of the Lotus Evija are completed. That will not happen until next year, so this all-electric hypercar with 2,000 CV will begin reaching its customers from 2021.

In any case, the footage shows a car that, apart from the loss of the emotion of hearing a combustion engine being pushed to its limits, reveals the fully sporting and extreme nature of what may be the most important Lotus in the brand’s history, at least in the new era of the automotive industry.

Test Lotus Evija (2)To do so it will count on the technical support of another specialist, both in competition and in building legendary cars, namely Williams, the firm linked to motor racing which also has its Williams Advanced Engineering department.
