Mansory’s latest crazy creation is the Speranza, a Mercedes-AMG G 63 that has been modified to become a convertible with a soft top

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a highly versatile vehicle. Besides being an exclusive, luxurious SUV, it can also show its other side as a very capable 4×4 on the most demanding terrain. What is clear is that it can be personalised in either direction, depending on the taste of its owner.

What we did not see coming is the latest madness from the German tuner Mansory, known for its flamboyant and eye-catching work on many models, including the G-Class, now turned into a luxury SUV convertible with a soft top thanks to the changes introduced by Mansory, all accented, as could not be otherwise, with its personal touch both outside and inside.

Presented at the Top Marques Monaco event held in that city, Mansory was there with the Speranza, its exclusive build based on the German SUV. Obviously, the work Mansory has carried out on the Speranza is no small task, since converting a car with a fixed roof into a convertible requires many hours of work and modifications so that, structurally, it keeps its off-road characteristics and, above all, remains just as safe for its occupants.

Once the roof has been removed by Mansory’s specialists, the Speranza’s structure is modified at numerous points, with added reinforcements that compensate for the loss of torsional rigidity and give it the necessary stability. Obviously, the Speranza aims to maintain the original off-road characteristics, and for this reason special emphasis is placed on improving the rigidity of the bodyshell. Furthermore, just behind the rear door (at the height of the C-pillar), a new triangular-shaped window has been added, which serves both as a transition to the soft top and as protection for the occupants when driving with the roof lowered.

By the way, the soft top will be available in a wide range of colours so that it can match or contrast with the bodywork colour. It features electric operation, and the process can be carried out with just the press of a button added to the instrument panel. On the outside it has the styling and aerodynamic kit from Mansory’s Gronos series, which substantially changes the exterior look of the Mercedes-AMG G 63, especially at the front, not to mention the huge 24-inch FC.5 model wheels.

Mechanically, the Mansory Speranza is based on the AMG G 63, so under its bonnet we find the petrol twin-turbo V8 that produces 585 CV and 850 Nm of torque. However, these figures are the standard ones, since Mansory has modified the turbochargers and also fitted a new high-performance exhaust line, raising the power to 820 CV while the torque rises to an impressive 1,150 Nm. Thanks to these figures it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds, and its top speed is limited to 250 km/h.
