The Maserati MC20 is already here, but who does it really face?

Maserati has just put the MC20 into play, a model that is already here but is in the sights of its main rivals, who want to dethrone it.

Maserati, a brand that has been reborn like the phoenix from its ashes, news that delights us and excites us in equal measure. However, the house of the trident did not arrive on empty ground with the MC20, a model that offers important innovations but that also lands in a sector full of tough rivals ready to see off the newcomer. Nevertheless, Maserati knows very well what it is doing, which is why we are sure it will offer its competitors a fine and entertaining battle.

And the fact is that the Italian firm has stepped away from the GT segment following the discontinuation of the GranTurismo -although it will return- to fully enter the world of pure and hardcore supercars. The MC20 is a bet that, a priori, is convincing, but will it hold its own against those who do not want to leave it a single slice of the cake?

Lamborghini Huracán

The fellow countryman of the new Maserati MC20 is ready to make things difficult for it, and the Lamborghini Huracán is without doubt one of the favourites. Behind its imposing -and attractive- styling lies a colossal 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine capable of producing 640 CV and 600 Nm of torque in its latest update.

Thanks to these figures, the supercar from Sant’Agata Bolognese can cover 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 325 km/h. By contrast, the newcomer Maserati MC20 uses a 3.0-litre V6 -also mid-mounted- turbocharged which is capable of developing 630 CV and 730 Nm of torque, allowing it to match the same performance as its rival, the Huracán.

Audi R8

From Germany and with a bet very similar to the Italian’s comes the Audi R8, a formidable supercar that also wants to put Maserati MC20 under pressure. To achieve this, the engineers at the house of the four rings have opted for a more restrained design but a very generous technological package.

Audi R8 V10 Rwd Coupé

As far as mechanics are concerned, we find the same engine as in the Lamborghini Huracán, that is, a 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 capable of delivering 620 CV and 580 Nm of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 3.1 seconds and its top speed rises to 330 km/h.

Ferrari F8 Tributo

Of course, Ferrari could not be missing from this special ranking. The close relative of the MC20, the F8 Tributo, positions itself as one of its most direct rivals despite the almost 100 CV that separate them. It is true that the house of the Cavallino Rampante has opted for a set-up that, at first glance, seems more radical; but on paper they are not so different.

The Ferrari F8 Tributo uses a turbocharged V8 capable of delivering 720 CV and 770 Nm of torque. These figures allow the Italian car to reach 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h, performance very similar to that of the MC20.
