The Megacity from BMW moves forward: there is already a teaser and the prototype is under construction

BMW has shown very complete details of its Megacity electric car project and has provided evidence that the new concept and first prototype -not just a concept in itself, but a whole universe around the Megacity- is under construction at its headquarters in Munich.
According to BMW’s own terms, the Megacity will be built on a general idea called LifeDrive, making a clear distinction between the part of the car that houses the powertrain and the passenger space. The “Drive module” will feature electric motorisation, a 35 kW electric motor with its corresponding lithium batteries.
We arrive at the “Life module” and here we find the innovation that BMW has wanted to apply to this concept. The cabin will be built mainly of carbon fibre and aluminium, and it seems that this will be the production model too, although we already know that intentions in concepts are rarely realised; but as I always say, BMW is one of the few brands that presents concepts that are similar to production models.
The use of these materials for the cabin has clearly identifiable advantages: it saves between 250 and 350 kilos from the car’s total weight, very appropriate when discussing certain weight disadvantages among electric cars. It will also allow simplifying the entire car production process under certain parameters the brand is already preparing.
When will we see the finished model? It seems very soon. For now, the Frankfurt motor show is the venue announced by BMW to present it. Its presentation will lead to two more models, using the same LifeDrive scheme: an even smaller electric model and another electric one slightly larger in size.
