The Mercedes SLS e-Cell stretches its legs at the Nürburgring

The Mercedes-Benz SLS e-Cell had reportedly begun its final tests ahead of its launch next year. This time it has been spotted running laps around the Nürburgring circuit.

For many months we received few updates on the development of this electric sports car from the star brand, which had first left us wide-eyed with the green colour of the first prototype. Things have moved forward, there is no doubt about that; so much so that the SLS e-Cell has braved the Green Hell and is now seen testing in more subdued colours.

The aforementioned prototype was seen at the legendary German track carrying out high-speed tests, as well as on the access roads to the circuit. And although the grey it now wears hides much of the differences from its counterparts, the “e-Cell” lettering in front of the doors, a set of rear bumpers different from those of the petrol versions and a strange… mark on the surface of the doors can still be seen.

Based on what is known so far about the e-Cell, it would produce 525 horsepower, a slightly lower acceleration than the V8 version and a top speed limited to 240 km/h to protect the battery life. All of these figures come from the concept presented a couple of years ago, so Mercedes could well introduce changes in view of future competition from the Audi e-tron and the BMW i8.
