The Mercedes Vito features all-wheel drive for maximum versatility

The commercial vehicle market demands power and functionality to reach every place where work needs to be done, so the new Mercedes-Benz Vito 4×4 comes with all-wheel drive to meet all the demands of the job

Commercial vehicles need plenty of power and grip to make the most of their capabilities and deliver solutions in every possible situation. That is why they need good traction that can transfer the engine’s power to the wheels and get them out of the tight spots their work often puts them in. The Mercedes Vito is one of the most widely used vans thanks to its versatility, and now it includes all-wheel drive in its new Vito 4×4 version.

The 4ETS permanent all-wheel drive joins the front-wheel and rear-wheel drive models and is especially suited to situations where this extra power is needed to overcome the challenges of the tasks the vehicle is put to. For example, this permanent all-wheel drive system is very well suited to vehicles used in construction, in places where the ground is not well compacted, or for installing power lines and similar work in inhospitable locations.

This permanent all-wheel drive system is based on the 4ETS electronic all-wheel drive system, working together with the ESP and ASR stability control systems. As a result, the system distributes a 45:55 ratio between the front and rear axles on compact surfaces. If it detects a loss of grip, it adjusts the distribution, sending more power to the axle with better grip.

As for the engine that generates the power needed for all this efficiency, it is the most powerful in the range: the 2.5-litre OM 651 engine, which delivers 190 CV and a maximum torque of 440 Nm, transmitted to all four wheels through a 7G-TRONIC PLUS gearbox.

In terms of equipment, it comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, fitted with larger brakes on the front wheels. In addition, all versions stand less than two metres tall, a height well suited to driving in many places where a taller vehicle would not be advisable.
