The MINI Cooper convertible disappears from the brand's plans: we are left without an electric convertible
MINI has decided to cancel production of the brand’s electric convertible, although the reasons behind this decision have not been made public.

A couple of years ago, MINI announced that it would be working on the development and design of a convertible version of the electric Cooper. An electric convertible that was going to be positioned in the difficult segment of electric convertibles. But, as has been reported by a British publication, the brand has decided to shelve this model permanently.
Production was scheduled for 2027, so everything was going to be ready throughout 2025 in order to carry out the final tests in 2026 and start production the following year. However, and with practically no publicity, the decision has been made to shelve the project and cancel its production.

There is no official reason for the cancellation of this model, although there are quite a few unofficial reasons that make this decision fairly logical. The demand for convertible cars is quite limited, and the profitability of this convertible model may not be as high as expected.

Furthermore, it is an electric car, so demand is even lower. We must not forget that sales of electric cars have stalled and are not rising as much as manufacturers had hoped. The competition posed by Chinese cars, which are cheaper and offer a wide variety of models and versions, is another unofficial reason that could have motivated this decision.
Even the petrol variant of the Cooper and the Cooper S with removable roof have dropped considerably worldwide. This contrasts with the results obtained in 2023, when sales of these two models grew considerably. This year has been quite bad, and this may have weighed on the final decision, which eliminates the electric convertible variant.
However, the new generation of the MINI Cooper convertible with petrol engine is assured and will arrive in early 2025, so those who want to enjoy a convertible MINI will still have an option.
