The new Citroën 2CV would begin production next year in Madrid
Frederic Banzet, Managing Director of Citroën, told the French newspaper Le Monde that they are preparing to unveil the new 2CV next year, to be sold from 2014 onwards, and that it will be built in Madrid.

The return of the Citroën 2CV is nothing new; for at least two years there has been talk of the possibility of reviving it. And since the PSA Group is looking for “something” that will bring in money by the bucketful, a model that sells, nothing better than drawing on the illustrious 2CV. The rumours gathered strength again during the Paris Motor Show, when Citroën’s Managing Director, Frederic Banzet, said that next year production of a new model will begin, which could be the new 2CV.
According to the executive, the next 2CV of the 21st century (although it will have little to do with two horsepower) will not be a low-cost car and will be built at the French brand’s Villaverde plant in Madrid, as stated in an interview with Le Monde by Banzet. He added that “it will be a small, simple and modern car at a very good price”.
Banzet has also revealed a little more about the new model, although he has not been very explanatory. He has only said that it would be very close to the C-Cactus, the concept the brand showed at the Frankfurt show back in the distant year of 2007, but the design would be different.
Although the price will be limited, it will not be considered a low-cost vehicle, a statement that leaves us more confused than before. Either you are low-cost or you are not, since the options and variants this attempt at a 2CV might have could push the price up.
From what Banzet has said, the new 2CV would be presented next year as a production model for 2014. I think that if it is even remotely similar to the C-Cactus, we will be looking at something we will have to follow very closely.
