The new Citroën C4 Cactus goes on sale

The Citroën C4 Cactus will reach dealerships in June 2014, and orders can already be placed for any of the versions on sale.
We are looking at a new Citroën bet on something different. It is a difficult task to explain where we would place this car among the various segments that exist. Perhaps, being similar in size to the compact SUVs, such as the Renault Captur or the Peugeot 2008, it would compete for a place among them.
With its 4.16 metres in length and 1.73 metres in width, it is 17 centimetres shorter and 6 centimetres narrower than a C4, although the height is very similar.
The exterior design is what attracts the most attention, especially the Airbump system fitted to the sides as well as the rear and front of the car. These are small pieces of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that protect against everyday scrapes and knocks, while also serving as a decorative element that gives the C4 Cactus an interesting and distinctive presence.
The interior may seem a little plain or give the impression of a “Low Cost” version, but the truth is that the plastic materials fulfil their purpose more than adequately. The design of the seats is inspired by that of sofas, so comfort is assured (only available on models fitted with the ETG automated gearbox). Depending on the versions and the equipment fitted, the impression may also vary.

The driving interface is 100% digital and features a 7″ touchscreen on which climate control and the speed limiter, among others, can be operated.
Where the passenger airbag would normally go, there is a large glovebox called the “Top Box”, so the safety device has now been relocated to the roof. What Citroën calls the “Airbag in Roof”, gives the passenger more room and gives the car an extra, larger storage element.
The new C4 Cactus is available in four trim levels: Live, Feel, Shine and Business, to which are added two special series, Feel Cool and Feel Fine, and four launch editions, Feel Edition Silver, Feel Edition Hello, Shine Edition Moonlight and Shine Edition Urban.
The standard equipment, in both technology and safety, across all of them is sufficient for the comfort of the driver and passengers. LED daytime running lights, a USB socket, an MP3 radio with steering-wheel controls, Hill Assist (which helps when pulling away on a slope), the Stop&Start system and a 7″ touchscreen are among the items the C4 Cactus comes with as standard.

The range of engines available for this model comprises one petrol (PureTech) and two diesel (e-HDi and BlueHDi) units. The petrol version produces 82 CV of power and can be paired with a 5-speed manual or ETG automated gearbox. The e-HDi diesel variant has 92 CV of power and is paired with a 6-speed ETG automated gearbox, while the BlueHDi with 100 CV of power is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
All of them are exempt from the Registration Tax due to their low CO2 emissions.
