The new generation of the Bentley Continental roars with power at the Nürburgring

The new Bentley Continental, which will go on sale from next year, 2017, has undergone testing on the demanding and complicated Nürburgring circuit, one of those used to test the characteristics of new models, and you can see the car in this video

The Nürburgring circuit is one of those used to carry out road tests of the cars that manufacturers bring out each year. It is a very important and demanding track, which vehicles must pass to verify that everything works properly and that each car is ready to face the challenge of driving on roads and streets under almost extreme conditions. The new Bentley Continental has also been through this test, and in the video you can see at the end of the article you have the proof.

This new generation of the luxury car, both as a coupé and as a convertible, has many differences in its bodywork compared with the current model. It is based on the concept car EXP10 Speed 6. Among the elements it has taken from this concept model is a front fascia with two round headlights, accompanied by two smaller ones beside them.

Changes and new engines

The new Bentley Continental will have three engine options, one of them a plug-in hybrid. Another standout element is the design of the rear wheel arches. They have been designed so that they look sportier and more attractive. The prototypes you will see in the video appear to be testing the new 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 engine that has come out of the Volkswagen Group. This powerplant has been present in the Bentley Bentayga since last year, where it delivers around 608 CV. In this new Continental it is expected to offer a similar power range, although we do not know whether it has been tuned to deliver more power or reduced output to keep the model more controlled.

Another engine confirmed for this new model is a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, which appeared in an earlier test lap around the Nürburgring disguised as a Porsche Panamera. These are not the only engines this model will have, since it will also get a plug-in hybrid version that will arrive later.

We mentioned that the Bentley Continental had an earlier test disguised as a Porsche Panamera. This was possible because the model is based on the MSB platform, which the popular German car also uses. This means that the Continental that will soon see the light of day will have a considerable weight reduction compared with the current generation, thanks to the use of aluminium among the materials used in its manufacture. Shall we watch the video?
