The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2013

Mercedes-Benz has now unveiled the new generation of its largest industrial van, the Sprinter. It is a comprehensive update that brings new engines, improved fuel consumption and emissions figures, and new safety systems.

The Sprinter also receives a redesign of both its exterior and interior, aiming to bring the industrial van closer to the brand’s design language, with a more pronounced front end and a grille that takes on a more prominent role, accompanied by more modern headlights whose design resembles that of the brand’s newest models, such as the A-Class or the B-Class.

One of the areas this update has focused on most is safety. In fact, the Sprinter debuts numerous innovations within its segment, among which the Crosswind Assist, fitted as standard, and the Pre-Safe and Neutral Gear Assist, both optional, stand out. In this way, Sprinter drivers will be able to enjoy systems that until recently were only fitted to the brand’s most advanced models.

Moreover, if the new generation of the Sprinter can boast of anything, it is running costs. Not so much in terms of purchase price (we all know the star has to be paid for), but in terms of fuel consumption and maintenance. The engines of the Mercedes van have been updated, so they now consume less (their average consumption drops to as low as 6.2 l/100 km), and emit much less too, thanks to the AdBlue and BlueTEC systems.

The Sprinter can be fitted with diesel engines with outputs between 95 and 190 CV, as well as a petrol and natural gas engine producing 156 CV. These powertrains can be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or the well-known 7G-Tronic automatic, making it the only van with a 7-speed gearbox. The maintenance interval of the large Mercedes van can be extended to a considerable 60,000 km.
