The new Hyundai with a visible fuel cell stack ahead of its presentation at CES
Hyundai is preparing a new version of the ix35 with a fuel cell powertrain, which will be on show during CES 2018

Hyundai has a new fuel cell model and wants us to see it during next CES. This cutting-edge electronics, design and technology event opens its doors in just a few days, and Hyundai will bring to Las Vegas, the city hosting it, a model that still has no name (or, more accurately, we don’t know it yet). It is a new version of the ix35 that uses this hydrogen-based traction system and will have more news to show us.
Within the technology hidden in the model we will see new equipment for autonomous driving: the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The presentation will take place at an event held before CES on 8 January at the Mandalay Bay. As for the exterior of the hydrogen model, it is practically identical to the one the Korean brand unveiled in August, so it seems most of the changes are hidden under the skin of the model.

There are also changes in small details that bring the car up to the latest design language of the Korean brand. This can be seen in the LED headlights. In addition, the door handles are integrated into the door, which reflects the good aerodynamics the car offers. Under the bonnet it will carry the fourth generation of the company’s fuel cell technology, which will also be the one fitted when it reaches the market, something that, according to reports, will happen sooner than we expect.

HYUNDAI PILA DE COMBUSTIBLE
This new ix35 will be 20% lighter than the current one and its performance will increase by 9%. All of this thanks to the innovations carried out to improve the model’s characteristics. Range will reach 800 kilometres, and the new hydrogen tank contributes to this. With the technology used, the fuel is stored more densely.

Engine power also rises to 161 CV, an increase of 20% over the current model. As for the autonomous driving system’s features, there is no information yet, but they surely have some interesting surprise in store in this respect too. Hyundai has several fully electric projects for 2021. Among them is a battery-electric version of the Kona and a new electric model that could reach 500 kilometres of range.
