The new McLaren 765LT arrives, the most outrageous creation from the people in Woking

McLaren takes another step into supercar territory with the 765LT, the most radical version of the 720S, which comes with 765 CV and 800 Nm of torque.

McLaren has once again been up to its old tricks, this time taking the 720S, one of its most recent models that has earned its place in the supercar segment through sheer merit, as its base. Even so, the engineers at the English firm have known how to tighten the screws on the 720S, a model that has allowed itself to be seduced by the LT family. And it is precisely these letters, which stand for “Long Tail” in English, that have brought out the most radical side of each and every one of the cars that have carried them, with the 675LT and 600LT being clear examples of this.

Now, a more aggressive look and even more impressive performance make the 765LT the credentials of a true marvel of driving dynamics. The company based in Woking does not mess around when it comes to developing a vehicle ready to dethrone the greatest, a task this latest creation sets out to accomplish.

In terms of styling, we find a series of features that already hint that this is no ordinary 720S. A new exhaust finished in titanium not only manages to cut the total weight by 3.8 kilos, but it also now features four cylindrical exhaust outlets in a central position. At the same time, a far more brazen and exuberant diffuser serves as a clear indication of the level of performance this new 765LT is prepared to deliver.

The movable rear wing has three different positions, designed to optimise the car’s aerodynamics according to the circumstances. For example, under heavy braking it rises fully upright; on a straight, it lowers; and when attacking corners, it rises discreetly depending on the intensity of the line taken.

The cabin is now dressed in seats trimmed in carbon fibre, identical to those fitted to its big brother, the Senna. Together with other lighter components, these help the 675LT tip the scales at 1,339 kilos, which is 80 kilos less than the standard 720S. If we add to this weight a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 capable of producing 765 CV and 800 Nm of torque, the final result is simply overwhelming.

With this in mind, the McLaren 765LT manages to sprint to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 330 km/h. But don’t bother checking your wallet, because, true to its name, the English firm will build only 765 units of this prized vehicle, and they will be allocated very soon. Those who don’t run, fly.
