The new Shelby Mustang GT500 could be more powerful than Ford itself claims

Although many of them will keep their Shelby GT500 in strict factory specification, many others have already decided to dig a little deeper to learn all its details and plan modifications to increase performance.

An American YouTuber is among those who can enjoy a Shelby Mustang GT500, and one of the first things he did with it was take it to the dyno. As we have seen on past occasions, the Audi RS7 turned out to be quicker in the 0 to 100 than the manufacturer itself claimed, and something similar could happen with the Ford sports car.

In many cases, dynos are a great help in knowing for certain how much wear the engine has suffered over time and how much power it has lost. However, this was not feasible in a car like the one we are concerned with today, which is why the dyno was going to reveal solely and exclusively the power with which the Shelby GT500 leaves the Ford factory gates.

To be more precise, Ford has used a 5.0-litre V8 supercharged by a positive-displacement compressor, capable of delivering 770 CV and 847 Nm of torque, figures that allow the new GT500 to cover 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 290 km/h. However, to this YouTuber’s surprise, the dyno revealed that this quintessential muscle car in its most exuberant version sends 705 CV to the wheels, a figure that has room for improvement up to 825 CV of power.

Given this premise, we are dealing with a car that is already radical in itself and hides great potential, which may be being held back for an even more powerful version. In this way, many Shelby GT500 owners will turn to that hidden horsepower to unleash even more radical performance and make it a more direct rival to the Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
