The new, very special electric Mini MINI
Mini took three quarter-scale Mini Cooper models to the London Games, with electric motors and designed to transport the athletes’ competition equipment.

Showing off the sheer number of models that BMW has brought to the Olympic Games, Mini is no exception either; electric and hybrid German cars glide through the streets and surroundings of every stadium where the events are taking place. Still, Mini had one more surprise in store regarding the eternal Mini Cooper, with a new model, the Mini MINI.
This Mini, more “Mini” than the rest, is nothing less than a quarter-scale model of the original. To put it plainly, it is electric, with a battery life of roughly 30 minutes. The little one is used to transport javelins, hammers, discs and any other equipment that is part of the athletes’ competition. Once a competitor’s event is over, a Mini MINI rushes onto the field to be loaded, then heads back to the competitors’ rest area.

These little cars can carry a maximum weight of eight kilos, so responsiveness must be quick; they can only carry one hammer, two javelins or one disc at a time. Furthermore, there are only three of these Mini in operation.
Many will be thinking about a possible production run of these small electric vehicles, but the truth is that BMW does not plan to produce them. Some reportedly made lucrative offers to buy them, but they are not for sale… at least not until the Games are over.
