If there was any doubt, Volkswagen confirms its commitment to diesel engines. Especially when it comes to including the new Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI in our list of the best SUVs of 2019. A brutal SUV that will receive the powerful eight-cylinder V-engine whose performance would leave more than one high-end sports car behind.

And indeed, during the road test of the Volkswagen Touareg we received very positive feedback from the unit that housed the most powerful diesel engine to date. That Volkswagen Touareg had the 286 hp 3.0 TDI V6 engine.

For those who still rely on diesel as a high-performance fuel, there is good news: this 2019 Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI will deliver a more than significant output of 421 CV, but where it truly stands out is in torque: 900 Nm.

In addition, the engine of the new Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI displaces four litres and will inevitably be paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox with dual-clutch, 4Motion all-wheel drive system and 4Corner adjustable air suspension.

But for those moments of driving when the new Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI does not have to act as a tow vehicle, its acceleration is more typical of cars other than SUVs. This vehicle can reach 250 km/h, electronically limited, and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds despite weighing almost two tonnes, 1,995 kg.

The presentation of the new Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI

The unveiling of this colossal version of the new Volkswagen Touareg will take place next week at the Geneva Motor Show, which opens its doors from 5 to 17 March.

There we will see the 2019 Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI variant, whose differences from the rest of the range will be subtle: only the V8 badges on the front grille and rear tailgate will identify this diesel eight-cylinder version.

In addition to the V8 logos, the wheels will be exclusive to this version. The wheels, corresponding to the Tirano model, are one inch larger than the standard ones, going from 18 to 19.

Distinctive details in the cabin come with the Elegance package. The seats will be upholstered in Vienna leather. The pedals, in stainless steel, will have a metallic shine like other elements such as the trim and, to add to the sense of exclusivity, the rear tailgate will feature power opening.

Although the price of the new Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI has not been announced, we do know it will be available from May. We will learn its starting price later on for this new diesel SUV with power to spare for work and export.
