The next electric car platform from Ford will be European

Ford is working on electric cars that will be sold in Europe. This is no secret, just as it is no secret that these models will feature the MEB platform, provided by Volkswagen so that the American manufacturer can prepare these cars. But once these two are ready, Ford wants to start working with its own platform.

The first of those models built on the MEB platform will arrive this same year, and the second will follow next year. Meanwhile, the brand with the blue oval is working on its own platform that will allow it to access the European market with its own technology. And apparently, that platform is being developed in the United States.

A versatile and practical platform

The work done so far promises a versatile platform with great potential. However, it will not be dedicated to small or city vehicles, but to vehicles of a certain size. For the moment, work is underway on a platform that could be used by several types of vehicles of these characteristics, although it is not yet known how it will be used.

This project may be related to statements from the brand’s executives, who are seeking ways to bring Ford’s European division into profit as soon as possible. The company’s intention is to stop selling small cars in order to earn greater revenue, so that smaller, cheaper cars are no longer attractive.

One of the major casualties of that decision is the legendary Ford Fiesta. The end of production for this model and its disappearance from the market was announced recently. For now, and following the plan to remove small cars from the market, even in the case of electric cars.

As for the elimination of combustion-engine cars, these are expected to disappear by 2030 if there is sufficient demand for electric cars to make them unnecessary. They will, in any case, be built on this new electric car platform, exclusive to Ford vehicles.
