The next Nissan GT-R could be a sedan

The Nissan GT-R or Skyline has been produced for decades, but not all of the vehicles we know have been the ones to carry this prestigious name. There have been saloons and sedans that came after the launch of a two-door coupé, so the Japanese brand has a long track record when it comes to ‘trial and error’. The latest GT-R, the R35, is probably the most successful during its seven years on the market, but rumours about its successor are starting to surface, and not all of them are true or as welcome as we would like.
There has been talk that the next generation of the Nissan GT-R will have power close to 800 CV, thanks in part to a hybrid propulsion system based on the one already presented by the trio of hybrid supercars (McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari). Now Motoring, an Australian magazine, claims that an internal source in the new GT-R development project has an important detail about the next generation of the sports car. It could be a mutation into a four-door sedan, dropping its two-door coupé configuration.

Digitally created images published on the Motoring website (images) could corroborate this information. On the other hand, this same anonymous source has said that Nissan has moved development of the new GT-R from Japan, where the R35 was developed almost in secret, to Europe and America. “Obviously, some development work is being carried out in Japan, within the Super GT Championship, but the bulk of the project is being handled by Nissan Europe and Nissan United States.
Apparently, the market trend is toward high-performance sedans and/or saloons, so Nissan would not want to lose its slice of the pie. One of the details that could lend the most credibility to the rumour is that Infiniti, a brand belonging to the Nissan Group, would have nearly finished building the Q50 Eau Rouge, which could be connected in some way to this future four-door GT-R.
