The Nissan Mobility Concept takes its first steps in Japan

Nissan will rent out eight units of the Mobility Concept, the twin brother of the electric Renault Twizy, free of charge in the vicinity of its headquarters in Japan, so it could be said that the final production model is just around the corner.

Japan is a country where alternative energies used in the automotive sector are strongly promoted, with outstanding sales of hybrids and electric vehicles, so it was somewhat surprising that Nissan had taken almost two years to put on the streets the electric twin brother of its French partners, the well-known Renault Twizy.

The situation has changed, and now the Nissan Mobility Concept is a tangible reality a couple of years after being presented. Since then, we had heard little about it. But in the last few hours, Nissan has launched an initiative focused on renting the Mobility Concept free of charge to anyone who wants to try it.

And no, I haven’t made a mistake. Nissan rents it out without charging a single cent in the Minato Mirai district, near its corporate headquarters. Anyone who wants to drive it just has to book an appointment online, where they will have up to three and a half hours to take a few laps in the electric car.

Eight units of the Mobility Concept will be in service. Apparently these are clear signs that Nissan is preparing to start selling the Japanese version of the Twizy at any moment, added to the fact that this rental plan will only last until January 2013. Perhaps next year, the Japanese Twizy will already be a commercial reality.
