The Opel Insignia gets a facelift

Opel has just launched a restyling of one of its best-selling models of recent years. We’re talking about the Insignia, which will debut this facelift at the Frankfurt Motor Show, in September of this year.

The new Insignia has been renewed to stay at the top of its segment’s sales charts, a position it has never left since its launch back in November 2008.

For this restyling, Opel has followed the lines of the current-generation Astra, the brand’s benchmark, so the Insignia now adopts a sharper front end with headlights very similar to those of the Astra, combined with a larger grille that lend the whole car more elegance and sophistication.

While the side profile has barely changed beyond new-design wheels, the rear has also been modified, housing much smaller light clusters, with bolder shapes and more prominent edges. Without a doubt, the rear view is much sportier on this new Insignia.

Inside, the Opel Insignia has reduced the number of buttons on the centre console, one of the most criticised points of the old version, thanks, among other things, to the option of fitting a new multimedia system with an 8″ touchscreen. In addition, the steering wheel has a new design and the cabin materials have been revised to give a greater sense of quality.

On the mechanical side, the Opel Insignia renews its engines, such as the 2.0 CDTI, offered in two power outputs (120 and 140 CV). The first one makes headlines thanks to a spectacular consumption figure of just 3.7 litres per 100 km, equivalent to emissions of 99 g of CO2. The diesel range is completed by the 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI with 195 CV and 400 Nm of torque.

For those who prefer petrol, Opel offers 3 engines, starting with a 1.4 LPG natural gas unit (its sale in Spain is not confirmed) with 140 CV. It continues with the new 1.6 SIDI Turbo with 170 CV, and is completed by the 2.0 SIDI Turbo with 250 CV. This last one can optionally be fitted with all-wheel drive. All engines can be combined with manual and automatic gearboxes, both with 6 speeds.
