The Opel Meriva gets an update for 2014

The smallest MPV from the German brand is updated, with numerous improvements in all areas. The Opel Meriva gets a new engine and revises the rest, adapting them to the demanding Euro 6 anti-pollution regulations.

In addition, the Meriva adds new equipment options, clearly intending to keep setting the pace in such a competitive segment. It will be officially presented in November, and the first units will reach dealerships at the beginning of 2014.

The second generation of the Opel Meriva was launched in 2010, featuring new details such as the suicide-style rear doors or flexible seat folding. Now, halfway through its commercial life, it undergoes a thorough update that will allow it to maintain a good sales level. To do so, and starting with the technical side, it incorporates a new 1.6 CDTI diesel engine, which replaces the current 1.7 CDTI. This new engine, already debuted in the Zafira a few months ago, delivers 136 CV while consuming 10% less, achieving 4.4 litres per 100 km. The petrol engines have been revised and updated, so the 1.4 Turbo versions of 120 and 140 CV receive a new low-friction gearbox, designed to improve driving comfort.

The design has also been updated, with the front end adopting the brand’s signature lines. The headlights receive LED technology, the grille incorporates more chrome details, and the 17- and 18-inch wheels get updated designs.
Inside, the Meriva debuts a new infotainment system called IntelliLink, centred on a large 7-inch screen and which brings together all the vehicle’s multimedia systems. The Meriva can now stream music via Bluetooth, make calls, or easily update maps and points of interest with the help of a USB.
The prices of the Meriva will be announced in November, with the first units delivered in January 2014.
