The Opel Mokka will begin production in Spain

Good news for the Spanish automotive industry. The plant of the German manufacturer Opel has announced in recent days that the Figueruelas plant, Zaragoza will receive a new model in the coming months.
Production of the Opel Mokka will come to the Spanish factory, due to the high demand for this model, which means the original factory in Korea has become too small.
This decision is motivated by the great reception the Mokka has had since its launch. To avoid lengthening waiting lists excessively, the company’s management has made the double decision to start its production in Spain and to expand the existing production at the Bupyeong plant in Korea. In this way, in the words of Opel’s CEO, Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, the underutilization of European production capacity is alleviated.

In an initial phase, 80 million euros will be invested in the Zaragoza plant. These decisions by the brand will allow it to maintain the 5,800 jobs at the Figueruelas factory, which currently focuses its production on the Corsa city car and the Meriva small MPV.
In the second phase, Mokka production will start with parts kits arriving from the Korean plant, gradually expanding until the Mokka is assembled entirely at the Zaragoza plant.
Let us recall that the Opel Mokka went on sale in Spain at the end of 2012, offering three engines: a 130 CV 1.7 CDTI diesel and two petrol engines, a 1.6 with 116 CV and a 1.4 Turbo with 140 CV. Available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive via a multi-plate clutch, its price starts at 17,627 euros.
