The option among compact SUVs is called Citroën C3 Aircross
A compact SUV at a competitive price. That is the Citroën C3 Aircross
The compact SUV Citroën C3 Aircross is the French brand’s take on a C-segment car for everyday life in the paved big city, one that likes to escape on weekends to secluded places far from the bustle of the metropolis.
Or, at least, that is what the images accompanying its launch seem to show. Interurban roads leading from densely populated towns to small villages where asphalt gives way to cobblestones, stone tiles or even unpaved tracks. All of them surfaces where an SUV like this model should hold its own.
The Citroën C3 Aircross range
If there is one thing that characterises Citroën models of this decade, it is their chameleon-like ability to offer an extremely high level of personalisation.
So much so that, thanks to the “Inspired by you” philosophy, the French brand lets the customer choose up to a total of 85 different combinations thanks to, for example, a wide range of body colours, up to eight, or individual customisation of external elements such as the roof, with four colours to choose from, even offering a choice of four predefined colour packs.
For this reason, the trim levels available for the Citroën C3 Aircross are those Citroën names Feel, Shine, InspiredBy, Live and the more carefree Rip Curl, not forgetting the special edition Citroën C3 Aircross Origins.
It should be added that, as far as the cabin is concerned, up to five ambiences are also offered: from the sober, simple one that comes as standard to others such as Metropolitan Grey, which, while favouring bright colours, leaves the warmer ones such as the Urban Red interior somewhat aside. The latter is more emotional thanks to its contrasts, where the use of a sunny orange, more in keeping with the car’s own nationality since, although of French origin, this compact SUV is manufactured at the Figueruelas plant in Zaragoza. Above these, the Hype Mistral, with the use of noble materials such as leather and chrome inserts, and the Hype Colorado, which adds semi-leather seats, a two-tone steering wheel and a dashboard with specific decoration, are the interiors that come closest to the premium concept for Citroën.
And, if we talk about the tastes of its occupants, when it comes to needs, this compact SUV not only offers a good amount of interior space, with a large number of practical storage solutions, but also up to 420 litres of luggage volume in its boot.
Diesel or petrol, manual or automatic
With the confirmation that a hybrid Citroën C3 Aircross version is on its way or, why not, an electric car adopting the mechanics of PSA’s e-CMP platform, as its sibling the Citroën C4 electric will do, for the time being this SUV sticks with traditional fuels to power its engines.
On the one hand, the Citroën C3 Aircross is offered with a PureTech 82 petrol engine, with a homologated consumption of 6.5 litres of fuel per hundred kilometres travelled, producing 147 grams of CO2 per km driven, and the PureTech 110, whose measurements put it at 7 l/100 km and generating 157 g/km of CO2.
On the other hand, the diesel Citroën C3 Aircross features the BlueHDi 100 engine, a diesel consumption of 4.9 l/100 km and emissions of 130 g/km of CO2
All these figures are established under the WLTP homologation protocol.
There is also the option of choosing the six-speed AET6 automatic gearbox in the Feel and Shine trim levels, for greater comfort for those who enjoy a more relaxed and laid-back drive.
