The PDK gearbox of Porsche and the manual option compared
A YouTuber shows live the differences between the PDK gearbox of a Porsche Carrera and the manual option of a 911 4S.
Automatic gearboxes are gaining ground on manual transmissions. There are still those who prefer to have three pedals in their car, but there are fewer and fewer of them, and there is no doubt that automatic gearboxes have evolved enormously in recent years. One of the most widely used automatic transmissions today is the dual-clutch gearbox, and the one offered by Porsche – PDK – is without a doubt one of the best on the market. If you are interested in knowing how this automatic gearbox compares with its manual equivalent, this video should clear up all your doubts.
The sequence in question was published by YouTuber Nick Murray (the star of the video), who compares the PDK gearbox of a Porsche Carrera against the seven-speed manual gearbox of a 911 4S.

The conclusion we can draw from the video is that the PDK is the more complete option: it is faster – with a simple prod of the throttle, it shifts from 6th to 3rd automatically and in the blink of an eye, and it also reduces the 0-100 km/h acceleration by more than half a second – easier to use, more efficient – it achieves lower consumption thanks, among other things, to the sailing function, an option the manual gearbox does not offer –, it has a launch control system and is better suited to the turbocharged engines of the new generations, since by not lifting off the accelerator during shifts, the turbo keeps running at all times.

On the other hand, the only advantages Murray finds in the manual option are its lower price (almost 3,000 euros cheaper) and its greater engagement when driving, a factor that for many can make driving a much more entertaining experience. Another feature the YouTuber mentions in the video is the rev-matching function included in the manual version, a system that adjusts engine revs so that gear changes take place at the most optimal speed.
