108 Peugeot Safety Technology Urban
The Peugeot 108, now with automatic city braking system

Peugeot has announced the addition of the preventive safety system to its smallest and most urban model, the recently renewed 108.
This is a very beneficial addition for the model, which becomes one of the few in the A-segment to feature this advanced technology.
The commercial name the French brand gives this system is ‘Active City Brake’, and it refers to the autonomous braking system that the 108 can now be fitted with as an option on all versions, at an extra cost of €500.
The small city car, developed together with Citroën and Toyota, becomes one of the safest vehicles in its segment thanks to this technology, consisting of a short-range laser sensor located at the top of the front windscreen.

This system emits a high-intensity, short-range laser beam and is capable of identifying objects travelling in the same direction as the vehicle, whether cars, trucks or motorcycles. When the system detects an obstacle, it triggers a warning sequence to alert the driver to reduce speed.
If the driver ignores the warning (for example, because they are distracted), the vehicle itself is capable of executing a braking command at 100% of the car’s capacity, thereby mitigating the possible consequences of a rear-end impact. If the car’s speed is below 30 km/h, it may even be able to avoid the collision altogether.
This system also acts as an unintentional lane departure warning, as it is also capable of reading the road markings, emitting an audible beeping warning and alerting the driver to a possible lane departure or to a lane change being made without the use of the indicators.
