The Peugeot 508 improves safety thanks to the Night Vision system
The Peugeot 508 enhances safety when driving at night thanks to the inclusion of the Night Vision system, which detects pedestrians and animals after dark.

Safety and driver assistance systems are becoming increasingly common in many models on the market. As for systems that help increase safety in low-visibility conditions, a night vision system that has been given the very fitting name of Night Vision has recently hit the market.
This system, which works with infrared cameras, is being offered as an option on the new Peugeot 508, so the driver gains greater visibility at night. Night Vision, like other advances applied to automotive technology, comes from the military field. After being used in military vehicles, it has been included in this model to improve safety when driving at night.

Infrared camera in the front grille
The infrared camera, which captures images of what lies ahead of the car, is located next to the brand logo in the front grille. It is capable of capturing the thermal image of any living being measuring more than 50 centimetres and located at a distance of between 15 and 200 metres.

When Night Vision mode is activated, in combination with the Full LED headlights, the image is transmitted to the digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. This means the driver does not have to take their eyes off the road and is aware of an obstacle ahead in the form of a pedestrian or animal, which the system registers through a thermal signal.
Pedestrians or animals are highlighted in yellow, which stands out against the overall view, rendered in a range of greys. If the capture indicates that the detected element poses a danger, it turns red, so it is very easy to determine the risk it poses to the vehicle. This system works at speeds below 160 km/h.
When the Night Vision system is not active, it keeps working, but does not display the images it captures, except when it detects a risk, which it shows as an alarm indication in a temporary window. Installing the Night Vision system on the Peugeot 508 is available to any customer for 1,200 euros, so enjoying a very effective safety feature for night driving is not very expensive.
