How could we define this concept? A spa on wheels, a mobile beauty salon, or simply an electric car with novel details. Depending on your point of view, the ZOE Z.E. will be a curiosity for some or nonsense for others. But let’s see what this prototype, developed in collaboration with Biotherm, the luxury products division of L’Oréal, has to offer.

The Renault ZOE Z.E. has an electric motor of around 95 CV and has the peculiarity of offering three different charging options: normal charging, from a standard electrical connection, which takes between four and eight hours; fast charging, from specific charging posts; and the quick drop system, which simply swaps the used battery for a charged one. This last system was surely designed with compatibility with the Better Place project in mind, which patented a rapid battery-swap system.

The prototype has a system that harvests energy directly from the sun through photovoltaic cells, thanks to its roof, conceived as an intelligent protective membrane.

However, all of this goes out the window when we get to the next peculiarity of the ZOE Z.E: the care of passengers’ skin (!); the car controls and cleans the air inside the cabin. It achieves this thanks to a complex air purification system, equipped with a toxicity sensor and a particle filter. But the most surprising feature is the diffusion of exclusive active scents, tailored to the driver’s needs. Thus, depending on the time of day, the vehicle releases different fragrances. A scent of energy in the morning, anti-stress for the drive home from work, and attention-boosting at night. The fragrances were developed by Biotherm and turn the cabin into “a pleasant spa”.

I think the best thing that could be done for the electric car is two things: trying to lower its production costs, which still make it expensive, and increasing battery range. Beauty and skin-care treatments can wait for later.
