The renewed Audi A2 would be presented in 2012, in the shadow of the A1

When Audi stopped building the Audi A2 back in 2005, the Audi A1 was still just an idea in the minds of Audi engineers, and the e-Tron was still far away. However, Audi could bring the Audi A2 to life, which would introduce many of the current ideas and technologies used in the two models mentioned above.
Audi’s new idea for the A2 is to keep the design line of the previous model but without the costly aluminium chassis, switching to a conventional chassis as in the A1. Audi has also revealed that the A2 could follow in the footsteps of the e-Tron, since electric technology is currently a priority for the brand.
As for conventional engines, the A2 would follow the path laid out by the A1 in using various petrol and diesel engines, shared with the brand’s base model. The idea is to take it on in the European market against similar models from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
For those who are hoping for some evolution of what was once the A2, the new model will not depart from the design line it had previously: a somewhat narrow track and a fairly high roof, and it will keep the family look that characterised the previous version. Nevertheless, let us recall that a few months ago a convertible version of the A2 appeared online, which could give rise to further speculation.
