The renewed Porsche Panamera Turbo S sets a new record

Many of us thought the sports saloon segment was on the way down, but brands like Porsche show us how wrong we were. The newly renewed Porsche Panamera (road test) has wanted to prove its worth by setting a new record in pursuit of becoming the fastest saloon on the face of the earth. This milestone took place specifically at the Road Atlanta circuit, challenging its most direct rivals to try to snatch the crown away from it.

It seems that the record the Panamera already achieved this summer at the Nürburgring was not enough, and it wanted to go for more. In this way, the German saloon makes its position more secure and makes it harder for anyone to dethrone it.

We should not forget that the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is, at the very least, a tricky circuit, with all kinds of corners that will make anyone who tries to tackle it in pursuit of a new record sweat bullets. To achieve this feat, Porsche not only relied on the Porsche Panamera Turbo S, but also on Leh Keen, a professional driver in charge of handling the Stuttgart saloon on the American track’s asphalt.

This is a circuit made up of 4 kilometres spread across a total of 12 corners, and it is where the Le Petit Le Mans endurance race is held every year. But the Panamera Turbo S did not go there to demonstrate endurance, but to show what happens when the concept of a saloon is combined with a level of performance that can be described with one adjective: sporty.

Under the skin of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S lies a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 capable of producing 630 CV and 820 Nm of torque. These figures guarantee a 0 to 100 in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 315 km/h. In this way, Porsche has, together with its most performance-focused saloon, stopped the stopwatch at 1:31.51 minutes.

This is a vehicle capable of putting not only its most direct competitors under pressure, but also pure sports cars of similar power. With this in mind, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S becomes one of the fastest saloons in the world and leads us to wonder whether this kind of car really has any limit. Time will tell.
