The Sbarro Autobau, one of the ugliest cars on Earth

If it were only for the rear of the car, it wouldn’t be so ugly. But when you turn it around and look at the front, it is truly grotesque, without a hint of good taste in the design.

Some of you will think that as long as it’s fast, the design hardly matters. Perhaps that was what the designer Franco Sbarro thought when he unveiled this little gem at the Geneva Motor Show. The Sbarro Autobau is a sort of “tribute car” to Swiss racing driver Fredy Lienhard, perhaps the best-known Swiss driver outside Europe, who went on to compete in the ALMS.

But let’s take a closer look at the Autobau. It is said to be equipped with a Ferrari V12 engine producing 500 CV. Clearly there are several parts of its bodywork that are superfluous, such as the side rear windows and the oversized rear end (which must weigh more than the car itself). But the front is a chapter of its own: ideal so that, when it comes to homologation, protection for pedestrians against being run over is non-existent. In fact, it is a deadly trap, the kind of car that Freddy Krueger would drive. Can you imagine being run over by the Autobau?

¿Y cuánto te pagan por llevar esto por la calle?, si yo fuese el piloto suizo al que hace homenaje el coche, casi preferiría permanecer en la clandestinidad.
