The second trailer for Le Mans '66 arrives: the race where Ford and Ferrari declared war on each other

Two months before its release, the second trailer for Le Mans ’66 has been unveiled, the film that tells the gripping story of how Ford decided to challenge Ferrari.

The legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans has always been a perfect showcase for brands to display their full technological arsenal and position themselves as benchmarks. For many years, it was Ferrari that wore this medal around its neck, something Ford was determined to stop immediately by teaming up with Carroll Shelby to create the legendary Ford GT40.

This gripping story has been covered in the best books and documentaries for motorsport enthusiasts. However, it had never reached the big screen even though it has all the ingredients to keep us glued to our seats for as long as necessary.

The film Le Mans ’66 sets out to change that, and a few months ago we got to see the first trailer, which undoubtedly left us wanting more. This highly anticipated film will recount the historic war waged between Ford and Ferrari ahead of the 1966 Le Mans race and, two months before its release, a new trailer has been unveiled that leaves us even more eager for its premiere.

James Mangold, director of Le Mans ’66, has chosen two Hollywood stars, Christian Bale and Matt Damon, to lead the film. The former plays Carroll Shelby and the latter takes on the role of British driver Ken Miles.

LeMans 66 Le Mans ’66 comes with controversy

To add even more fuel to the fire, there appears to be controversy surrounding the release of Le Mans ’66. Henry Ford II’s son, Edsel Ford II, has already stated on Twitter that he strongly disagrees with the portrayal of his father in the film, so everything suggests he won’t be our favourite character.

In addition, something that has also caused a stir within the Ford family is the fact that so much importance is given to the team of Carroll Shelby in the film. This is understandable, since the American brand considers this battle one of the great achievements of its history, as evidenced by the Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition they created to pay tribute to it. Therefore, it is not pleasing that a handful of mechanics should take the credit after 53 years.

Nevertheless, it is not at all bad that the Shelby crew receive public recognition, since they were the ones who worked hardest to ensure that a car bearing the oval badge ended up beating a cavallino. As proof of this, history tells us that the top brass at Ford did not always look favourably upon the Ford GT40 project.

So we will have to wait until 15 November to see Le Mans ’66 in cinemas, so for now, we leave you the second trailer as an appetiser:
