The ŠKODA KAROQ is arriving, and we have the first images for you to enjoy

The presentation date for the new compact SUV from the Czech brand is set for May 18. But some things can’t wait, and one week before the launch of this model, ŠKODA wanted to give us a preview of the car’s image that will arrive soon. These aren’t very revealing images, but they let us see some details of the car’s design.

In terms of the range, it will sit below the Kodiaq, which is considerably larger and has seven seats. In fact, this new model is built on the same platform used by the SEAT Ateca, so what we can expect is very close to what the Spanish model offers. The same platform is also used for the Volkswagen Tiguan, so there will be three models in the group sharing the same underpinnings.

Like the Spanish model, it will have a wheelbase of 2,638 mm, although the all-wheel-drive version will be slightly shorter, at 2,630 mm. That said, it will be 2 centimetres longer than the Ateca, a small detail that may suggest a series of features that turn this model into something more than a copy with a different badge.

From what we can see, we can point out the front grille, entirely ŠKODA in design, framed by sleek headlights that differ from those of its bigger sibling. This detail also shows the new crossover’s intention to distance itself from the Kodiaq’s design and to be something completely different with its own personality.

The front headlights and rear lights aim to offer a very special look, based on Bohemian crystal, another Czech jewel that is internationally known, so they want it to shine in that way and to have a luxurious, distinctive appearance. I use this word knowing what is intended: to avoid turning this model into “just another” car using the platform it shares with its most direct rivals, and to offer a car that represents the brand’s style. Let’s look at the photos, and we’ll wait for clearer images to find out what this new ŠKODA proposal has to offer.
