Roomster Skoda Industry Minivans
The Škoda Roomster will have an indirect successor based on the Volkswagen Caddy

The reports published by the British magazine Auto Express are often not particularly reliable, if at all. However, the one it published this week about the future of the Škoda Roomster does not sound too far-fetched. Even so, since it does not reveal the identity of the internal source at the Czech brand who provided the information, we will take it with caution.
According to its claims, the passenger version of the new Volkswagen Caddy 2015, recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, will soon become an indirect replacement for the Škoda Roomster, a product that will thus move into a different segment.

Although far from a commercial disaster, the sales figures of the Czech MPV have not recovered over time to a particularly positive level -it has never exceeded 50,000 units a year in Europe-. Developing a new product of its own from scratch is unfeasible for Škoda, and VAG is looking to cut costs. Therefore, making the Caddy and the Roomster siblings fits perfectly into this context.
The source with whom Auto Express spoke explains that the Czech manufacturer is already designing the model together with a team from the Commercial Vehicles division of Volkswagen. The announcement is scheduled to be made official this summer, when the new Caddy will go on sale, and its market launch is expected in 2016.
The product wearing the Škoda badge will feature an exclusive design that will, in turn, set it far apart from the Roomster. According to the same source, it will also not give up the economical character, though not “low-cost“, of the brand’s vehicles. In other words, it will be a more affordable alternative to the Caddy, ready to compete with rivals such as the pair Citroën Berlingo Multispace/Peugeot Partner Tepee, which has just been updated and is built in Vigo.
